Five US Chipmakers Selected by ZTE for Chip Components

In spite of the concerns raised by four US lawmakers on October 19 regarding the safety of using networking equipment supplied by ZTE and Huawei, ZTE recently announced the purchase of US$3 billion chip components from Qualcomm, TI (Texas Instrument), Freescale Semiconductor, Altera and Broadcom, the bloomberg.net reported on October 26. According to an email dated October 26 from ZTE, the purchase will last for the next three years, with an aim to boost ZTE's market presence in the United States. In addition, ZTE already obtained an agreement, under which its two devices will be sold through Verizon Wireless, according to the same source. ZTE stated to the company purchases over US$2 billion technology equipment annually from US chipmakers and suppliers and to date, the company has bought intellectual property rights and products, worth more than US$4 billion, from US vendors, according again to the bloomberg.net.
